LAGOS READING CLUB: AROUND THE WORLD IN 11 BOOKS, with Sandro William Junqueira
Annual Theme: The World So Full of Worlds – Monthly Encounters
The world is vast. The books, infinite. By reading authors from different geographies we can increase the boundaries of our human and literary territory. Travel without leaving the same place. Opening windows in the head for a better understanding of ourselves, of the other, and of this global place we inhabit.
Book under review/reading: “Mizé: rather a bitch than normal and remedied” by Ricardo Adolfo
Mizé was the most unexpected turn that Palha’s life could ever take.”
On the outskirts of Lisbon, Mizé, the good guy from the neighborhood, tries to reconcile her dreams of a star life with the routine between the unisex salon and the Esperança social district. But it is not easy. She wants more, much more. And she is prepared to use everything she has to achieve it. On the other hand, Palha, who dropped his mother's skirts to marry Mizé, just wants to keep what little he has left — starting with his job selling French fries. On a night of deceit, Palha discovers what she never wanted to see. Desperate, he sets out in search of Mizé's innocence and ends up unearthing his own lie.
With a camp of unique and irresistible characters, Mizé is a fun-loving story from head to toe that shows us how life on the outskirts can be anything but gray.
Participation is free, but subject to the limit of 20 mandatory prior registrations via phone 282 767 816, the Library's Facebook page or email library@cm-lagos.pt
